APPLICATIONS – DIRECTORS
Participating Theatres for 2010 will be announced in February/March 2010.
The scheme will be advertised each year in January, with information circulated to theatres, colleges, universities and scholastic institutions. The application form contains different questions every year and approximately 250 applications are received in each round.
An initial short list of 100 directors will be selected by members of the Steering Group and these application forms will then be read by the Artistic Directors of the participating theatres. The Artistic Directors will select a long list of up to 20 directors for interview, 8 of whom go on to be selected for a second and final interview.
The decision as to where directors are placed lies with the participating theatres. Applicants should be available from July 2010 and willing to be based anywhere in the UK.
The scheme is open to any professional director over the age of 21 who is:
- Resident in the UK
- At an early stage of their career development
- Can demonstrate an interest in and commitment to theatre directing
There is no upper age limit for the scheme but directors should be in the early stages of their career.
"This scheme works with and within the theatre profession in a most inspiring way. Young directors are enabled to both work and watch. The best of contemporary theatre practice is laid before them in an idealistic situation – warm, paid, rigorous, challenging and creative. I am full of admiration for Jack Andrews, its administrator, who has spent much of his life making the scheme possible".
